BASIC CAMP

A little family update on our oldest:

Yesterday Caleb left for four weeks of basic camp in Fort Knox, Kentucky. This is part of his ROTC commitment before he starts his junior year at Wabash College.

It's only a month that he will be in Kentucky, but it definitely has that "significant milestone" feel to it.

So Melissa fixed several of his favorite meals last week and on Sunday, Melissa, Caleb, Sarah and I spent the afternoon hiking together in Brown County State Park.

After a couple of trips to the store yesterday morning to make sure he had everything on his supply list, Caleb drove himself south.

We look forward to having him back for a couple of weeks after the training and before the fall semester starts at Wabash. He will be studying political science now, rather than physics, but his plan is to go into law enforcement, starting out in the military with the goal of eventually becoming a U.S. marshal.

His only hesitation regarding basic training was that it would remove him from his summer internship with the marshal service out of Indianapolis for several weeks. He has really enjoyed job shadowing there and it seems like a good fit for his personality and interests, so Melissa and I are happy for him.

While we will be anxious to hear about his experiences with military training over these next few weeks, we have every confidence that - with God's help - Caleb can handle whatever comes his way.
