UPDATE ON JOHNNY AND HIS MOTHER

Happy to report tonight that this Sunday was much better for our dear friend Johnny and his mother, Therese. Last Sunday she was literally near death after contracting cholera. In the course of caring for her (and worrying at her bedside), Johnny himself ended up sick, but thankfully the diagnosis ruled out cholera.

Caleb and Samuel and I made a quick trip up the hillside this afternoon to see the family and Therese is home and looking like her old self again. She knows so many of you were lifting her in prayer and she is very thankful. She plans to head back to work tomorrow - maybe earlier than she should, but she is the breadwinner of the family and she has missed out on a week of earnings.

Johnny also looked his old self and he is enthusiastic about returning to his kids at Cowman tomorrow. Praise God. They have missed him and he has missed them.

Please pray for complete healing for Therese - she is suffering from pain in her arms and legs. It seems to be a result of the severe dehydration she underwent early in her tangle with cholera.

Also, if you think of us this week, please lift the people and government of Haiti in prayer. The official results of last Sunday's presidential election are expected on Tuesday and that could mean some turmoil in the streets. With 50-some candidates on the ballot, there are bound to be plenty of people upset to not see their choice in the final two! (The two announced on Tuesday will square off for a final election expected in December.) We are bracing for possible interruptions to our school schedule this week but our greater concern rests on seeing the nation on a path to stability and growth. May God's will be done!
