VBS in Haiti Pics (Part Two!)

Dats spoke the international language: Soccer!

Pastor Herode seemed to be an incredibly gifted man of God.  His love for the people and their love for him were both quite evident.  If he walked into the sanctuary for VBS and heard a child crying, he would have that child within his fatherly arms in seconds and the child would be content.

Even the smallest Haitians were fascinated by The Princess' hair!  The Princess couldn't walk by another child without having her hair - or her wrist! - grabbed without warning.  She was pretty good-natured about it, but it usually sent her running to my arms.

The Pastor's wife put together some incredibly beautiful and tasty meals for us!

Since the church wanted to feed their VBS kids and the Spokane church had provided $1,000, the church had to limit VBS to 150 kids.  Some kids who weren't on the official list still came into the sanctuary and joined in on the music and teaching anyway.  Others, like this little boy, watched and listened from outside the windows of the church building.

I love this picture because it's both incredibly sad and so awesomely hopeful at the same time.  This is how Haiti itself is - in my mind, anyway:  Resources are scarce, but there is a hunger for things of God!  The Haitian church is alive and well ... but could do so much more as they have support from their brothers and sisters who have more...
